DESIGN CONCEPT

This poster concept was inspired by Hannah’s Netflix special Nanette where she said “My favorite sound in the whole world is the sound of a teacup finding its place on a saucer.”  We were touched by how she was able to strike the balance of making people laugh with her genius comedic wit, while also sharing such deeply personal experiences.

Conceptually we like the idea of utilizing a teacup since tea is part of her comedy set and her lifestyle. We added the growing plants into the design to symbolize and pay homage to the ways in which she’s growing as an artist and a human. The growing plant also represents her storytelling and how she promotes others to share and hold each other's stories too.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

We knew we wanted the illustration to interact with her name so we started by sketching custom typography. We created our composition in pencil with the teacup stack below her name and sketching to determine how the vines would weave throughout the letters. From there we illustrated and vectorized all of the elements before applying color and building the files for the screen print. We chose a matte navy stock and used baby blue, kelly green and gold inks in the final screen print poster.
